Our History
The Greater Fall River Art Assocation was officially founded in 1956 by people interested in bringing to our community an awareness and understanding of the visual arts. The organizing members met over 60 years ago, drew up by-laws and signed the Charter at the building across from the YMCA on Pine Street in Fall River, MA. The first national show was held in 1957 and first regional show in 1965.
The Belmont Street building was purchased in 1963 for $8,000. It was built in 1904 by A. H. Leeming for Charles Cole and is part of the Historic Highlands of Fall River, MA. The art association held a capital fund drive and paid for the building in two years. Continuing today, necessary and expensive repairs have been made. Much of the work by volunteers. The rooms are used for exhibitions and in 2010 several rooms were converted to "artists-in-residence"studio spaces that contribute to the vibrant exchange of art education, exhibitions, classes and support the celebration of Visual Arts.

Greater Fall River Art Association TODAY
The GFRAA continues to hold art classes and has dedicated teachers in a variety of media. Student shows are held annually to celebrate the artistic endeavors of those participating in our classes. We sponsor cultural trips to Boston and New York City museums and art venues. We participate in community events to enrich the "art scene" of the Fall River area. We wish to involve audiences of all ages and backgrounds in diverse art and educational programs.
On the pages of this website you will find information about our instructors, classes, exhibits, the WPA permanent collection, the Minna Kenler collection, upcoming events, directions and membership. Individual Membership is only $25.00/yr. Open gallery hours are: Wednesday 9:00 am - 12:00 noon; Friday 9:00 am - 4:00 pm and Sunday 12:00 noon - 3:00 pm. We are also available by appointment.
The GFRAA invites and welcomes new members with the message that you need only to have a love of art to join the association. We encourage both Artists and Art lovers to experience the GFRAA.
